What I help with

Anxiety & Overwhelm

When your system feels constantly activated, restless, or unable to slow down — no matter how hard you try to calm it.

Relationships & Connection

When it feels hard to stay present with the people you love, or to feel truly close — to others, or to yourself.

Trauma & Nervous System Healing

When past experiences are still shaping how you feel, respond, and connect — even when you can't always trace it back to why.

What Is Your Anxiety Language?

Understanding the Patterns Your Nervous System Uses to Protect You

Most of us have been taught to treat anxiety as the enemy. We judge ourselves for overthinking, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or constantly bracing for the worst. But these patterns are not evidence that something is wrong with you. They are the language of a nervous system that learned to protect you.

In What Is Your Anxiety Language?, therapist and educator Pamela Barlow introduces a compassionate, neuroscience-informed framework that helps readers understand the unique ways their nervous system communicates stress, safety, and survival. Drawing on neuroscience, attachment theory, trauma research, and psychology, this book explains why your brain and body respond the way they do — and how to work with your nervous system rather than against it.

By understanding your Anxiety Language, you can replace self-criticism and fear with curiosity and self-compassion, develop practical tools for nervous system regulation, and build a genuine sense of safety from the inside out. Your nervous system is not broken. It adapted. It has been speaking to you all along. This book will help you finally understand what it's been trying to say.

Curious about how your nervous system responds?

Your nervous system has a pattern — a way it learned to protect you when things feel too heavy, too uncertain, or too much.

This short quiz will help you understand what that pattern is, so you can begin working with it instead of against it.

In just a few minutes, you'll discover:

  • Your Primary Anxiety Language

  • Your Anchor — and what it means for you

Curious about what's possible beyond familiar patterns

Let's have a conversation about what you are experiencing, the patterns that may be showing up, and what a practical next step could look like.

I’m Pamela Barlow BCYCC, MSW

hi,

Somatic and Nervous System Practitioner

I believe that what you’re experiencing makes sense. Our nervous systems learn to protect us through the experiences we’ve lived, and sometimes those patterns can leave us feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, anxious, or stuck.

My role is not to “fix” you, but to help you better understand yourself with compassion, curiosity, and care. Together, we create a space that feels grounded, safe, and supportive enough for healing, self-awareness, and meaningful change to unfold.

With over twenty years of experience supporting individuals through trauma, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and life transitions, my approach combines evidence-based therapeutic practices with a deeply relational and nervous system-informed lens. I work alongside you to help build greater safety, regulation, connection, and trust within yourself.

Healing doesn’t happen through pressure or perfection. It begins by feeling safe enough to listen to what your mind and body have been trying to communicate all along.

I’m honoured to walk alongside you in that process.

Your nervous system has been working hard to protect you. It might be time to give it some support.

Therapy for anxiety, trauma, and the exhaustion of holding it all together — on your own, for too long.
